What the web is saying...

Pros: Huge library of games. Slimmer and much quieter in use when compared to the original PS3. The Blu-ray player performs very well. Full 1080p playback. Free, online multiplayer gaming via the Playstation Network (PSN). The most powerful 7th generation games console in terms of processing power.

Cons: The slim version lacks backward compatibility for Playstation 2 games. While it may be free, the PSN is not as feature packed or quite so intuitive as Microsoft's offering, Xbox Live.

The Bottom Line: This is still the most expensive of the 7th generation consoles, but it's the only one to feature a Blu-ray player - and it's a very good one at that, with disk access speeds beating many stand-alone players. So as a well as a very able games console, you also get a solid multimedia player. Online gaming with friends might not be quite as easy as Microsoft's Xbox Live, but the Playstation Network is free - and this will save you around £35 a year in equivalent fees. It's 33% slimmer and 36% lighter than the previous PS3 and it also runs quieter. A successful update of an established and very popular gaming console.
