How does it work?

We begin by building a list of bread makers with more than 50 ratings at Amazon UK, Argos and John Lewis. This jumps straight to the established products, and the rating scores reveal how they've actually performed, according to numerous owners.

We then remove the bread makers with less than 4 stars. We now have a list of the higher rated models, with a credible amount of opinion. We use the same criteria for all our consumer reports: each product must have over 50 reviews and more than 4 stars.

After sorting the list by ratings, we compile the following Top 5.

Our Notes on this Market

2017

In this update to our 2016 best bread maker report, we lose the Lakeland compact bread maker. It is replaced by another Panasonic bread maker – the Panasonic SD2512.

We did see other manufacturers when calculating the UK bread maker scores – Russell Hobbs, Andrew James, Cuisinart, Morphy Richards and Tower. We saw plenty of scores around the 4.5 mark.

The Morphy Richards Fastbake scored very well at Argos and Tesco (4.7) but not so well at Amazon (4.5). It couldn’t compete with the consistently high scoring Panasonic bread makers. It is still a very popular machine in the UK and worth a mention.

Since last years report was published, Tesco now sell the Panasonic SD2502. This added more high rating scores, keeping this in the Top 5. Argos now sell the Panasonic SD2511, again pushing up the overall score in our report, making it the best bread maker of 2017.

You can see this years 2017 ratings breakdown here, as well as the 2016 bread maker scores.

2016

Not a great change from our 2015 bread makers report, with the Panasonic bread machines scoring well with UK owners. We see the Panasonic SD-2511W take the place of the Morphy Richards 48280 (which is still a best selling bread maker, with a score of 4.5 at Amazon in June 2016).
