Market Insight

This our 2017 report on the best ice cream makers in the UK. We have researched this sector since 2015.

You can view the previous years ratings here.

This is a relatively small market in the UK; Argos sold three different models. The other shops we use for research, had between 10 and 45 different ice cream makers.

There are only a few manufacturers making ice cream machines for the home market. The main ones are Gaggia, Andrew James, Von Chef and Cuisinart.

The Andrew James ice cream maker that scored well in last years report is no longer for sale. We also lose a Von Chef ice cream maker from our 2016 Top 5. However this is replaced by another Von Chef model.

We see the inclusion of a Buffalo ice cream maker. This is not a brand we have heard of previously – and as you can see, this machine scores very well with customers at Amazon.

Because of the small size of this sector, it is easy for the consumer to navigate. Products look different from each other style-wise, and names are neither similar sounding or nondescript. This helps greatly when comparing models.

Rating scores have improved in this 2017 Top 5. The lowest scoring ice cream machine last year was 4.3, this year it is up to 4.5.
